NAOMI MISHKIN
b. New York, New York, USA 1989
Naomi Mishkin received her MFA from the University of Oxford, Oxford, England, where she was a Clarendon Scholar; her BFA in Glass from the Rhode Island School of Design, Providence, Rhode Island; and, her Certificate in Innovative Pattern Cutting at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts, London, England. Mishkin is an artist and a designer. The conceptual themes of her sculpture ring true in her clothes: love your materials and put meaning in your making. In 2018, Mishkin launched Naomi Nomi, a made to order garment line for the working woman. Mishkin lives and works in Brooklyn, New York.

To unstitch is not to destroy, it is to re-consider. To take out the stitches of a garment is an enormously careful and considered process - one that you do when something is not working as it should, something needs to be done again. When I was little I swore I slept with my eyes open., 2016, 43 x 26 inches, archival pigment print Edition of 8 with 1 AP Equating the work of the reader with the work of the dreamer, Mishkin refashioned the traditional foam book rest into a hand-made pillow for the mind.

Calm Conversation, 2015, Table dimensions: 36 x 36 x 29 inches, Cherry wood coffee table, un-annealed glass. The glass at the center of this table was made to be molecularly unstable. It could explode at any time.
